Today we want to introduce you the second project that will take part on the SCALE Mobility Programme: RECICLOS

Blue Room Innovation (www.blueroominnovaiton.com) is part of the Open Innovation Ecosystem of TheCircularLab of Ecoembes (www.ecoembes.es) that offers solutions related to Citizen Awareness and Awareness in the process of the digital and ecological transition.

In this context, we collaborate in the pioneering technological initiative with the aim of increasing public awareness of recycling in Spain: RECICLOS. A project that investigates new alternatives to mobilize citizens in recycling, using technology. 

Specifically, its purpose is to demonstrate how technology can help citizens recycle more and better, using incentives and gamification to achieve this goal. In other words, make our recycling habit «digital» and rewarded.

The RECICLOS system combines new digital technologies that recognize and reward those who perform this recycling task in a correct, transparent, efficient and effective way using blockchain technology.

We are creating the first computer application for mobile devices (app) to be launched in Spain to encourage waste recycling, known as RECICLOS. So far with already developed a webapp we have successfully passed the pilot tests in Sant Boi de Llobregat, Igualada, Granollers, the Pla de l’Estany region, the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, the Rovira i Virgili University and the Germans Trias i Pujol Hospital. Currently with over 6000 active users onboard (targeted population 60000) we are preparing the extension in Catalonia and the rest of Spain. 

It is an innovative model that rewards sustainable incentives and also makes technology its main advantage. The citizen takes a picture, recycles as usual in the corresponding container and accumulates points to receive sustainable awards.

The points accumulated by the people who participate in RECICLOS can be exchanged for discounts on public transport, bicycle rentals for a greater contribution in reducing the environmental impact, discounts at local shops, collective projects that improve the municipality through environmental and social collaborating entities or donations to NGOs.

This is a project based on gamification elements, but its ultimate objective is to move towards a collection model based on co-responsibility and the use of new technologies.
